Tips & Tricks: Email Forwarding and Text Messages

Forwarding School Loop Messages

School Loop only allows one email address per account. But say you want to receive School Loop messages in two separate email accounts. You can configure most email clients to forward messages to another email address. Here are the steps in Gmail. Other mail clients will have similar steps. This method uses a filter so you can forward messages only coming from School Loop:

Enter the forwarding Email address:

1. In Gmail, click the Gear icon  in the upper right, then select Settings.

2. Click the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.

3. From the first drop-down menu in the "Forwarding" section, select 'Add a Forwarding Address.'

4. Enter the email address to which you'd like your messages forwarded.  For your security, gmail will send a verification to that email address.

5. Open your forwarding email account, and find the confirmation message from the Gmail team.

6. Click the verification link in that email.

7. Back in your Gmail account,  select your forwarding address from the drop-down menu next to "Forward a copy of incoming mail to". Select the action you'd like your messages to take from the drop-down menu. You can choose to keep Gmail's copy of the message in your inbox, or you can send it automatically to All Mail or Trash.

Note: Do not enable Forwarding on this screen unless you want all incoming messages forwarded.

8. Click Save Changes.

Create the filter so only messages from School Loop are forwarded:

1. In Gmail, click the Gear icon  and select Settings.

2. Click the Filters tab, then select Create New Filter.

3. In the From field, enter the School Loop email address  ( use system@schoolloop.com to forward daily email or no-reply@securemail.schoolloop.com to forward regular LoopMail messages)

4. Check Forward It and select the forwarding address you setup up above.

5. Click the Create Filter button.

Get a text message when you receive a LoopMail message

Did you know you that can send text messages to your phone via email? That means you can setup email forwarding to send you a text message whenever a LoopMail message is sent to you. Just configure email forwarding in your mail client to send messages sent from School Loop to your carrier's special email address.

If you only want to receive text messages for daily email and other system messages then filter for messages from system@schoolloop.com

If you only want to receive  text messages for regular loopmail messages, then filter for messages from no-reply@securemail.schoolloop.com

Here are the text message email addresses for the most popular carriers. In all cases, the special address is your 10 digit cell phone number followed by a special domain. If your carrier is not listed here you can probably find the address on their website or just Google it.
