Tips & Tricks: Creating Assignments that are not Calculated

There are times when you may want to add an assignment that is not calculated as part of the student's grade. Here are a few ways to do it:

  1. Select Calendars under "Publish to:" when creating the assignment. This will place the assignment on the calendar, the classroom, and the homework email but not in the gradebook.

  2. If you use weighting, add the assignment to a non-weighted category. Assignments in non-weighted categories are not counted towards the overall grade.

  3. If you are not using weighting, then you could use the built-in code "E" for exempt. Or create a Custom Code with a value of "Does not count". Then use Autofill in the gradebook to give everyone your  code for the assignment. If you want the students and parents to be able to see the score they received, then use the Comment field on the Assignment Scoresheet or Student Scoresheet.
