There is no limit to the number or type of files that can be stored in lockers. There is however a 500 MB size limit for any single file. We recommend that you upload all of your files into folders to keep them organized. An easy way to create folders with files in them, is to upload a zip file and give it a name. The files will automatically unzip into a folder.
Note: With the new locker system you can drag and drop files and folders, manage all of your lockers from one location, and more.
Locker Types
Resource Locker
The Webmaster Center has a Resource Locker located near the bottom of the Content Manger. The resources uploaded to the Resource Locker are available for use anywhere on the website, but are only available to the webmaster. Click the Table view link to see the list in the same table format that is used in My Locker.
Section Lockers
Each section or sub-section of the website has its own separate locker. Unlike the Resource Locker of the Webmaster Center, the section lockers are shared with editors and contributors of those sections.
To access the section locker, look for the Resource Files button near the top right of any page of a given section.
As an organizational strategy, some webmasters will prefer to upload files to the sections where the files will be used. You should use the section image albums when you wish to share resources with your editors and contributors.
Locker Element
By default, a Locker Element on a page will contain the resources uploaded to the locker of that same section. However, you may edit the Locker Element to point to any locker available to you. Moreover, you may also point the Locker Element to any folder within a Locker.
Example: The Locker Element on the left was added to a page in the Departments section. By default, the locker contains the contents of that section's locker, which happened to be empty. After clicking the pencil icon to edit the element, the locker was pointed to the School Newsletters folder from the Homepage or Webmaster Center locker. On the right, you see the results of renaming and pointing the locker element to a specific folder.
Rich Text Editor Element
When creating links using the Rich Text Editor Element, you have the option of linking to either files or folders within a locker.
As pictured in the image above, highlight the text you wish to use as the hyperlink and then click the Hyperlink button. A new window with several tabs across the top will open (pictured right). Click the Locker tab and the click the desired locker, folder, or file.
The following links are working examples:
Locker, Folder, File.
Group Lockers
One way to share locker resources with webmasters, editors, and contributors across all sections of the site is to use a group locker. Just create a group for your web publishing team and upload files to the group locker. These resources will be available to all members of the group. A cross-district group is the best way to share a common locker for all webmasters across a district.
Downloading from the Locker
Generally most file types in the locker will download automatically when the user clicks on them, unless they have their browser set to automatically open the file type. The exception is pdfs. Our system will automatically load the pdf in the browser in the same tab. If the user wants to instead open in a separate tab or window, or wants to download the pdf to their computer, they can right-click (Ctrl-click for Macs) on the link in the locker and choose one of those options from the context menu.
